Funeral Service Information:
Harold Maizel, M.D., died on May 9, 2026, of natural causes. Harold was born to Nathan and Tillie Maizel.
After graduating from high school, Harold worked his way through premedical and medical school at the University of Illinois, receiving his M.D. degree in 1961. Following his internship at Cook County Hospital, he fulfilled his military obligation as a Captain in the U.S. Army. He later completed his residency in Internal Medicine at George Washington University, followed by a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Duke University. He achieved board certification in both specialties.
Early in his career, he served as president of the Orange County Internal Medicine Society and as an Associate Professor at UCI Medical Center. Harold practiced at St. Joseph Hospital for 41 years and held emeritus status following his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, of 64 years; his children, Marcia Maizel-Clarke (Merlin), Mark Maizel (Deborah), and Stephanie Liuag (Richard); and six wonderful grandchildren. Harold will always be remembered by his family as a dedicated physician, loving husband, father, and grandfather.
We extend special thanks to our wonderful caregiver, Juan Cruz; hospice nurse Lulu; and the hospice team from Providence/Compassus for the excellent care Harold received.
