Craig Howard Millman, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, died on August 18, 2026, while snorkeling with his beloved wife in the Dominican Republic. He was 76. Craig loved the ocean deeply, and the days leading up to his passing had been among the happiest of his life — spent exactly where he wanted to be, on the water.
Craig was born on March 25, 1950, in New York. He studied political theory and economics at St. John's University in New York City before earning his J.D. at John Marshall Law School in Chicago.
Craig was proud to begin his legal career in downstate Illinois, supporting individuals who otherwise wouldn’t have had access to legal services. Craig spent most of his career and adult life in downtown Chicago, representing clients in complex workers' compensation cases. In the final years of his career, Craig shifted course, turning his skills toward advocacy for plaintiffs with on-the-job injuries, with a particular focus on representing firefighters.
Craig had a deep and personal love for animals, especially cats. He found great joy in his volunteer work providing love and socialization for rescue cats in the Fort Myers area, often bringing his granddaughter along to help. And, rooted in his family history with a blind grandfather, he was a staunch and prolific supporter of service dog organizations, particularly those who provide guide dogs to veterans.
Craig was known for his sharp mind and his love of a good debate. He could talk current events and global politics for hours and rarely met an argument he didn't enjoy having. He was equally fascinated by financial markets and trends, always tracking the latest shifts with genuine curiosity. And for all his seriousness in the courtroom and at the debate table, those who knew Craig best will remember him most for his smile. It is no cliché to say that Craig’s smile could light up a room.
Craig is survived by his wife, Lisa Millman; his daughter, Allin Young (Sean Schulte); his grandchildren Bowie, Russell, and Apollo Schulte; sister Barbara Albert (Ken Albert z”l); and nieces Marti Spooner and Shari Abramson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Israel Millman.
Funeral service Thursday, September 17, 2:00PM at Westlawn Cemetery Chapel, 7801 W Montrose Ave, Norridge. Interment to follow.
