Morton A. Sternberg, Wonderful husband to Lee (Natalie) Wenig Sternberg. Amazing father to Sheri (Gary) Hokin, Michael (Karen) Sternberg and David Sternberg. Loving grandfather to Elana (Tom) Cepa, Sara (Jonah) Rubin, Jonathan (Samantha) Hokin, Elliot Sternberg, Tally Sternberg, Madison (Thom Josephson) Sternberg, Lacey Sternberg, Jesse Sternberg, and happy great grandfather to Levi, Riley, Adira, Quinn, Devin and Ezra. Born November 16, 1930 in Chicago. He was a caring son to Max z”l and Esther (nee Berger) Sternberg Levinson z”l and loving brother to Elaine Rifkin z”l. He graduated from Austin High School, Chicago, and University of Illinois - Champaign with a B.S. in accounting. There he met his darling Lee. They graduated and married in September, 1952, while he was serving in the Army during the Korean War. He was in the insurance business for over 60 years and loved the business as it was helping people which was important to him. Mort was a gifted athlete and loved introducing his children to all sports. He continued to play tennis into his late 80’s. Lee and Mort were original and active members of Congregation Beth Elohim which later merged to become B’nai Jehoshua Beth Elohim (BJBE) and remain loyal members. Mort Sternberg was known for his honesty, integrity, and sincere caring for others. He was universally liked by everyone who met him and knew him.
