Samuel Newman z”l, Holocaust survivor and beloved family patriarch, died September 13, 2025. Sam survived Auschwitz and several other concentration camps before being liberated at Bergen-Belsen. He later emigrated to Chicago, where he devoted himself to family, community, and the real estate development business he built.
Beloved husband of the late Rita (Kupfer) Newman z”l and of Sidi (Schwartz) Newman; loving father of Bruce (Rose z”l), Mitchell, and Jeffrey Newman; adored grandfather of Avi (Liz) Newman, Adina (Ari) Shrage, Daniel (Naomi) Newman, Zev (Becca) Newman, and Samantha Lovett; and cherished great-grandfather of Ayelet, Noam, Liat, Adele, Eva, Orly, Natalie, Livia, and Rosie. Preceded in death by his beloved siblings, Srul z”l, Mishkit z”l, Frida z”l, Eli z”l, Hensha z”l, and Aidel z”l.
